How To Put Multiple PDF Pages On One Sheet (N-Up Layout)
Printing a 40-page reference doc as 40 sheets is wasteful. Printing it 4-up - four pages per sheet - is 10 sheets, half the trees, and still readable for skimming.
N-Up PDF does the layout for you. Pick the density, the sheet size, the orientation, and the tool produces a new PDF with your pages arranged on bigger sheets.
Pick The Density
2-up keeps text comfortably readable and is good for documents you'll actually read. 4-up is the standard "save paper" choice for reference material. 6-up and 9-up are for indexes and overviews where you mainly want to see structure, not read every word.
Each cell in the layout scales the source page down to fit while preserving aspect ratio. Smaller pages, smaller text - pick a density that matches the text size you can tolerate.
Sheet Size And Orientation
A4 or Letter, portrait or landscape. Landscape usually fits more readable text because of the aspect ratio of typical page content.
For booklet-style printing where pages need to be reordered for binding, true booklet imposition is on the roadmap. The current N-Up is grid-based and doesn't reorder for folding.
Will Text Stay Selectable
Yes. Pages are embedded as vector content, not rasterized. Text in the resulting PDF is still searchable and selectable, just smaller. This is a real benefit over screenshot-based n-up tools.
